The Spectrum Presidential Initiative, led by the American Library Association’s President, Immediate Past President, and President Elect and chaired by ALA Past President Dr. Betty J. Turock, is a special campaign to raise $1 million for the Spectrum Scholarship Program.
Four areas of focus have been identified to strengthen the Spectrum Scholarship Program and to ensure the ALA will continue to build upon its strong foundation for current and future students. With a goal of $1 million, the Spectrum Presidential Initiative, our National Initiative for Inclusivity in America’s Libraries, addresses the following priorities:
- Support the immediate need of additional scholarships
- Offer two ALA doctoral scholarships
- Increase the scholarship endowment
- Develop special programs for recruitment and career development
As part of this goal, ALA seeks external funding sources interested in education, libraries, and diversity. To emphasize the library community’s investment in the diversity of its profession, it is hoped that nearly half of the $1 million will come from the internal library community, including ALA members, member groups, ALA corporate partners, and library staff and supporters.
